Landscape Design

As you may know, we grow the majority of our plants at Westwood Gardens. It takes a lot of time, dedication and care. So why do we go through all of the extra effort? It's simple: so that you get better plants. Our passion is growing. Our head grower, Debra Bauer, has been with us for over 30 years. She is in charge of making sure every Westwood grown plant is kept to our quality standards. What does that mean? Well, rolling up our sleeves, physically moving plants, and a constant layer of dirt covering our shirts.Mary Louis heads up the growing of our perennial department. Her passion for growing is obvious in our unique and carefully grown perennials.Lana Lyon, our Rogers store manager, grows all of our tomatoes, peppers and cole crops each year. Starting from tiny seeds, we think our plants produce the best-tasting yields.Jeffery Black at our Springdale store grows all of our fruit trees and berries. His expertise in fruit-bearing plants helps us grow all types of fruit trees and bushes.

Why are Westwood Grown plants better?

We start them early. Just about every crop we grow, we start earlier than industry standard. We like to give our seedings extra time to grow and mature the proper way. Fertilizer helps plants grow, but the reason our plants are so big in the spring is because we give them time.

We space properly. Spacing is one of the most important factors in growing plants. Allowing plants room to grow is key to getting fuller, healthier plants.

We give them LOTS of water. We are constantly watering our plants. You may call them high-maintenance, we call them our babies. Either way, they are just about constantly in need of water. (That's why we emphasize the importance of regular watering when you take them home.)

We grow locally. When you buy plants from the big box stores, they are typically shipped in from far away places. Long days in a dark box truck can stunt plant growth. We grow our plants right here in Northwest Arkansas so they never have to go far before getting to you. That means healthier, more beautiful plants for your garden.
